Abrasive Media

In our Washington based warehouse we hold the largest stocks of abrasive blast media in the Northeast. Available for delivery or collection.

A selection of available media types is shown. Others types are available upon request. Please call for expert advice.

There are 2 main classes of abrasives - expendable and recyclable.

Expendable Abrasive

Expendable abrasive is generally designed for open nozzle blasting such as mobile blast pots, or our Enviro-Blast, were the media is not recovered i.e. is used once then discarded.

J Blast we sell is an expendable synthetic mineral abrasive widely favoured for open nozzle blasting applications by virtue of its fast rates and economic price. A range of grades is available to suit most applications.

Name Typical Application
J Blast SupaMineral Copper Slag The industry standard. Gives high cleaning rate and etch acceptable for most industrial coatings e.g. ship's hulls, tank internals, pipe joints and steel fabrications such as motor vehicle chassis.
J Blast SC A safe alternative to sand without the hazards of silicosis. Typical applications include brick and masonry renovation, and graffiti removal.
Stonegrit Extra Fine Developed for use on ornate or soft stonework and removal of graffiti from decorative panels.
Aquagrit Aquagrit can be used in any application where you would normally use an expendable abrasive such as those above. It has been particularly suited for used with our Enviro-Blast wetblast system.

Recyclable Abrasive

Recyclable abrasives are generally used for “closed circuit” blasting such as blast cabinets or blast chambers, were the media is collected, optionally graded, and re-used.

A selection of media types and their typical applications is shown below. All are available in a range of grades to suit your application
.

Name Typical Application
Glass Bead Typically used for peening, polishing, mould cleaning, deburring, and the removal of almost any surface blemish where a minimum alteration to the underlying surface is required. Being totally inert, there is no risk of corrosion or any contamination.
Aluminium Oxide Typically used in blast cabinets to remove coating or provide an etch typically to a non-ferrous substrate.
Chilled Iron A hard angular recyclable abrasive which breaks down on impact to expose sharp new cutting edges which promote a rapid cleaning action. It is generally used in closed circuit, air propelled blasting systems for the rapid cleaning of painted or corroded parts such as steel fabrications or ferrous castings
Steel Shot A recyclable rounded profile steel with low breakdown rate Ideal for surface peening or giving a hammered effect on ferrous casting and fabrications and the majority of wheel machine (airless blasting) operations.
Plastic Media Typically used for selective or delicate coating removal on high value products.
